STAMfour

What was used: PHP, HTML, CSS, WordPress, Photoshop

STAMfour -- which stands for Stamina for Life -- is an organization developed by a former hospital director out of Milwaukee. I was asked to develop a website that brought a good image to the name. I used a sleek but simple navigation system with a middle information bar for the four areas of wellness. In addition to the site itself, I developed a new logo for STAMfour; represented by the four quadrants and a creative twist on the name.

A second portion of the site's development was converting it into an editable site. WordPress seemed the most viable and quick solution to this. A custom theme was developed and editing abilities were gained.

Math Minerals

What was used: Flash, AS3, AIR for Android

Tested on: Desktop, Motorola XOOM, Motorola Droid, Samsung Galaxy S

Math Minerals is a game for children ages 3-7, based on a booklet of games created by Andy Felt of the Suzuki Institute. Requires Android 2.2 or higher (utilizing AIR for Android) and runs on both tablets (preferred) and smartphones. It was developed by a group of teammates consisting of myself and six others in my WDMD 480 capstone course.

My development consisted of programming support to the main game core structure and classes (State Management, Dice classes) as well as four individual mini-games. I also provided support to other programmers in the rest of the mini-game levels.
Flash
Farm Oppression

What was used: Flash, AS3, Photoshop, Illustrator

This Flash game was created by myself and two other classmates in the WDMD 365 course entitled "Digital Game Development". The game concept is loosely based off of another Flash game "The Arrow of Time". The goal of the game was to create a serious game to educate players about an aspect of corporate culture that would engage users for 10 minutes and maintain a narrative and storyline. We themed our game around problems between farmers and corporate subsidization and featured the dangers farmers are in due to the threat of Monsanto lawyers filing lawsuits for re-using their seeds.

Our study of game theory was incorporated into the development of the game, such as exploration (probing & telescoping), ideas from Joseph Campbell's Hero Myth, problem solving, and having a clear navigation system. We utilized sound OOP (Object-oriented programming) principles for the construction of the game using Actionscript 3 and developed our storyline and narrative through storyboards to promote learning using principles from Clark Quinn's Engaging Learning and create an overall fun experience for the user.
